No Gestational Sac ?????

I had to have a very early scan because of past medical reasons … I am just 4 weeks 2 days pregnant …..based on day of last period.

I used to ovulate between day 10 and 12 - however now I don’t know, I no longer track ovulation as it stressed me out too much.

so I have no idea when I ovulated

the scan showed no Sac at all….

they checked for ectopic but couldn’t find anything anywhere.

They have taken blood for HCG and Progesterone - I hope I hear back today :(

is this normal to have no gestational sac at this stage ?

I also came home and did a first response pregnancy test - the test line is now stronger than the control line, yesterday the test line was slightly lighter than the control line - so HCG is definitely increasing - I think

any feedback would be greatly appreciated … wish I had refused the scan now :(
 
Totally normal! Did they take your blood to check HCG levels?
 
Yes they did

so according to my last bleed I am 4 weeks + 2 ( that’s is excluding today )

my blood is as below - I’m in the uk

hcg - 487
Progesterone - 39.6

what makes me worried is I had my progesterone tested before - another cycle - and it was 50 at day 21 of cycle - so not sure if progesterone is a bit low . I have progesterone to take so I’m going to start taking it.

Your HCG looks really good! I don’t know a great deal about progesterone levels but from a quick read on the internet they don’t look too concerning either. Did they prescribe the progesterone to you?

I don’t think they are able to see anything on ultrasound until HCG levels are at around 2000 and 5 weeks as a minimum. I know my epu said 6 for me. Really hope this is a positive outcome for you. Looks like it could be xx

progesterone I think - I’m not a doctor - is on the low side …. So I’ll take the Pessaries starting today - even though they preferred I didn’t as they need to retest me - with suspected ectopic pregnancy …

so glad to know it’s normal for nothing to show up on the scan at the moment

I’ve had early scans before and always showed up … maybe I ovulated a bit later

those are the American values - uk values are different

when I convert mine to the US values it comes out at about 12.5… so just above the threshold.

USA values consider a value of 10 to be sufficient for ovulation… so I’m now just above that with a positive pregnancy test.

my last pregnancy my progesterone was at 50 uk value … that was taken on day 21… so considerably higher than it is now in this pregnancy at CD 31

it’s so hard to find anything conclusive about progesterone:(

Weird why do they measure them different in the US. Seems so strange to me that it’s low and they’ve not offered you progesterone. Lucky you have some to take!

The USA measure lots of things differently - weight / height etc

The US unit is ng/ml and the UK unit is nmol/l

I was given progesterone before I had these results because I have had recurrent miscarriages …. But they asked me not to take them after my scan yesterday - to see how the testing is going after 48 hours - but I take them if I want … they didn’t feedback if my progesterone was considered low or not … that’s why I asked for feedback :(.

so I made the decision to start the progesterone as originally planned and just see what happens next week I guess

waiting is horrible /(
 
Yes I know it is. Even when we know everything is ok it’s still a worry :(

I have answered as honestly as I can a gestational sac would not be visible at 4+2. My last few experiences at EPU also in the U.K. I have been refused a scan until 6 weeks minimum for this reason.

Hopefully someone will see this who knows about progesterone and in the meantime you have some to take to help.

There are several NHS documents about progesterone on google if you haven’t looked, I know some ladies don’t like to x

yes i think you’re right about the timing etc ! I hope that’s the case for me :(

This is why I think not knowing certain details is better than knowing as if makes it worse.
I noticed in the USA they scan and blood test for everything very very early - obviously the doctors are getting paid - but it must just add to more anxiety and worry etc

I’ll know more on Monday and thank you for your kindness xxxx

I am updating here for other people to refer to, if ever in the same situation as me.

I had my bloods taken yesterday.

HCG had risen to 1250
Progestérone had risen to 73 - I had however started progesterone pessaries which could have been due to the increase.

the consultant said there was a good rise in hcg and to have a scan

I did my scan today and there is a pregnancy in the correct place measuring about 2mm… just the gestational sac as too early to see anything else at this point.

so hopefully all in the right direction for me. I’ll keep this thread updated for other people to refer back to.
