I'm just after some advice from someone who has been in the same situation please...

I have been suffering with pgp for the past week (currently 36 weeks pregnant)
GP told me I'll more than likely have it up until baby is born.
Is there anyone who has had this and can tell me will it disappear as soon as baby is born?
I'm in so much pain and I'm now dreading the next few weeks :(

Yes, I had it from about 18 weeks through to birth last time. For me it was manageable with physio, but it definitely went away v quickly after birth. Came back on a similar timescale this time, but again is fairly mild compared to other women I've spoken to.

Do whatever you can to manage the pain (avoid stressing hips by avoiding having legs apart, eg when getting out of car, swivel round and stand up with both legs together, rather than getting out of car on one leg, if that makes sense?). See a physio if you can - my hospital had self referral for it, but tbh that took ages, and I was lucky enough to be able to go private through work medical insurance) hip strengthening exercises are very good to do if you can. Consider a belly support belt if you need to stand for long periods, or if you're going on a long walk (can get one from Amazon for about £20)

I was last pregnant 7 years ago… had PGP from 16/17 weeks and had to finish work early. Was on crutches by the end…I have been dreading it this time sure enough it has reared it’s head at 17 weeks!

I have been doing some research and it looks as though there is more treatment available now…it was very much just exercises last time (this is private not sure how nhs treat now). If you can afford to it would be worth seeing a chiropractor or pgp specialist. An NHS ref may not happen in time but worth an ask? There’s a great midwife called the ecomidwife on Instagram and she has good advice along with pelvic partnership. Worth a look for info/advice.

Try and get it into your birth plan too so midwives are careful if they move your legs in birth. Agree with advice above! x

Thank you both so much for your replies. All the tips I will definitely take on board.

It's so frustrating having to go anywhere now and takes me ages to get anything done, I have no patience so it seems to be really getting to me.

Hope you both get through it ok.

We've got this

awww no so sorry to hear you are struggling, hope the next few weeks go fast, it must be hard dealing with the toddler aswell with that going on, I know I’m struggling being heavily pregnant with my toddler without that going on! Are you allowed any pain killers for it? X

I've been struggling with SPD since around 25 weeks.
Was referred to physio for pelvic floor and midwife advised a supportive bump band to take off the pressure but now I'm 37 weeks the bump band just makes me super uncomfortable so I'm just relying on my exercises.
Night-time is the absolute worst though especially if I've been out walking during the day. My midwife did say that once baby is here the pain should subside pretty quickly as the relaxin hormone reduces pretty soon after birth.
Sending you lots of sympathy x

It started when I was pregnant with my first who is 9 years old now, it got better after birth. My second child (6 years) wasn’t as bad but still painful but after birth never went away. If I walk for too long I get to the point I can’t actually walk anymore. I’m now pregnant with my third and it’s starting to play up daily and I’m almost 18 weeks. I’m sure I’m more of the rare case where it doesn’t go away but no one told me about it, I wish I knew it may stay all this time and continued physio x
