Help! My 16 month old never sleeps through The night. She slept through from being 6 weeks old and that lasted until she was 4 months old. The sleep regression hit and since then we have maybe 1-2 week periods where she sleeps through the night. We never changed anything with her routine, we carried on doing the same routine, she only has one nap a day and never let her sleep past 3pm. She falls asleep between 6.30-7 and then sleeps until about midnight then wakes up crying every hour some nights. She fidgets lots and rolls in her sleep and ends up at the top of her cot. She is still in my room still in a cot because we live in a town house and too scared to put her in the room below us. We have wanted to put her in her own room for a while but the constant up and down throughout the night puts me off. I’m at the end of my tether now, my b12 is off so I’m constantly tired anyways and just need to catch a break. I work 2 nights a week and struggling to recover from them too as sleep is a minimum. please help me :(

At 16mo it’s still very normal to not be sleeping through.. My first daughter did this until a week after she turned 2. Up down up down all night every night. I’d love to offer you some helpful tips but honestly we tried everything, she just had to outgrow it.. Putting her in her own room (at 15mo) was the biggest mistake we made, she started waking twice as much.. when we brought her back into our room (at 20mo) she did sleep a lot better but still, had to wait a few more months for her to sleep through... She’s nearly 3 now and sleeps like a log lol, doesn’t wake for anything, your little one will get there!!

couldn’t agree with this more! This is very similar to my experience, my little girl started sleeping great most nights just after she turned two, didn’t do anything different, just continued co-sleeping and letting her figure out her own routine and sleep needs and it did fall into place, she sleeps great most nights now, still needs to be supported to sleep but as soon as she’s out you can sneak away! And she will sleep a good 10-12 hours, no daytime nap anymore, it did just fall into place, anything I tried to ‘enforce’ just resulted in screaming, distress, and just didn’t work for us xx

Hi hun, are you sure it isn't something medical?
My DD started to wake up hourly at around 15 months, this went on for a few days and had her checked out. She had an ear infection but it went undetected because she didn't really have a fever. She got antibiotics and a few weeks later again the same issue. Then she had it again a few weeks after the second round of antibiotics and we decided to get tubes in her eardrums. She started sleeping through the night again..
I won't say your LO has the same but it might be worth having her checked out. Some children don't get high fevers.
Good luck!x

Yeah it’s easier to just do whatever gets everyone the most sleep and wait it out I think... I hope OP can find something that works for her.

Do you have both babies in your room now? We have everyone in a big family floor bed haha it’s great.

Haha it absolutely gets easier!! Newborn stage is the hardest! Once the baby is sitting it gets infinitely easier.. then a little harder again when they’re mobile lol. My second just turned 1yr old and life is 100x easier than it was a year ago.

We split the sleeping for the first 2 months.. hubby took baby 1 to the spare room at night and got up with her in the mornings so me and baby 2 could co-sleep/BF without bothering the toddler. I was lucky baby 2 slept really well though. Days were hard, I had to do everything with a newborn strapped to my chest!

thanks so much @WinterWolf that is very reassuring, I think I just needed to hear that it does get better, I think baby wearing is going to be the way forward for me, got my sling on order, I struggled using one with my eldest but going to have to figure it out and persevere with the baby as she hates being put down and I need to do things with my toddler! Xx

Ah good luck with it, I could never get a sling to work. The Baby Bjorn carrier was a lifesaver. If you find yourself struggling I’m always here if you need someone to talk to x
