JoAnn, where are you? I seem to remember you're west somewhere? Only asking as my mum's in Lenzie and I could well be leaving from there depending on what dates we decide..

Oh no - one eye bigger than the other ..... ?!?

James has one eye bigger than the other but it was much more noticeable when he was smaller. I seem to remember from psychology lectures at uni that we all have but that you only really notice it when you see someone reversed - like in a mirror!

Switching from Formula to Cows milk

Because James is very small, I wasn't sure about switching to cows milk but my OH convinced me that he was eating plenty. We combined formula and cows milk, eg 50/50 in a bottle for a couple of days, but giving cow's milk in his cup for meals, then went on to cows milk by itself. He seemed to...

Weddings With A Month Old Baby?

We took James when he was a month old to a wedding. I was terrified he'd start screaming but he slept through the whole service and pretty much all of the reception too. It was a ceilidh as well so pretty loud! like someone else said, we sat at the back of the church so I could take him out...

Not Interestered in Milk AT ALL!!

Sounds to me like he might be teething, especially if he's biting the teat. If you're upping his dairy intake that should help. Have you started giving him milk in a cup? Might be an idea if he's off his bottle.

    understanding the word no

James has understood no for a while, but doesn't always listen. I just make sure my tone when I use no is very different to my normal one. I say it at the same time as shaking my head and try really hard not to smile when I say it! Often, he'll stop but sometimes he'll just turn round and smile...

    Routines for 1 year old

Happy Birthday! I work 3 days a week but on my days off, James' routine is something like this: 6.30 - 7 - Up and bottle of milk in bed with us, usually 6 or 7 oz 8.00 - brekkie, usually porridge and toast 9.30 - 10.30 - nap 10.30 - snack, usually fruit, something from Organix and some milk in...

Make or break time for BFing- ffs!! updated

Really thinking of you, it's so not easy! I would agree with all the advice about feeding on demand, you can't get a little person to take milk if they don't want to! I would also echo Valentine's advice about Karla Napier's clinic at the ERI, it was so good for me and James (but the room's...

    Minor Ailments Scheme

It's great - was really useful for James' reflux and meant that I didn't have to go to the GP every time I needed more gaviscon for him! May be just a scottish thing though Sparky, just noticed you're in "sunny" midlothian too (think it's going to be summer before the snow melts!!)

Time baby is awake > 4 hours, help

Totally agree with DSL re wakeful babies! when I read how much sleep average babies have when they are little I was stunned cos James had nothing like it! His naps settled down when he did (he was colicky until about 14 weeks) and he seemed much happier and more relaxed after that. Would agree...

    Twitchy baby

James did it when he was very new too - he was what I would describe as "jittery". Docs said it might be low blood sugar (I get like that too) as he'd had a hard time when I was having him. It passed quite quickly and might not be the same as what your LO has. I would just keep an eye on it -...

    Advice please

had very similar pains for about the first 16 weeks - I remember ending up on the floor in a ball at one point. I was in agony but it was just ligaments like you say! Congrats!

    Sandwich fillings?

I hate nana too but James loves it. That and tuna mayo - except he does give off a whiff of fish afterwards which isn't attractive!

Obtaining hospital notes from baby birth

Would be interested in hearing replies to this - I was offered the debrief after my traumatic birth experience, but really wasn't ready to go through it again (was doing that far too much in my head anyway!). Thinking about TTC in about a year and I think it would help me to go through things so...

    To Young For Nursery?

I went back to work when James was 10 months and initially we used a nursery, it didn't work out but that wouldn't put me off nurseries in general and I don't think it's too young. Lots of the babies were about the same age as James. He now goes to a childminder which is great. My mum and I have...

    ecoballs any good?

We use them as James is a bit sensitive (!) and they're great. Sometimes make the washing machine smell a bit cos there's not perfume in them but we still do the occasional wash with detergent (OH's smelly shirts!) which solves that problem!

    childminder

I would agree that near home is great. I travel home on the bus, pop a wash or something in, then get to the childminder to get James. We did try a nursery halfway between work and home and it was a disaster - trying to get a tired baby home on a rush hour bus is no fun at all!
