As alot of you probably aleady know, I'm off to the gynae cos blood test show I'm not 'O'ing and I might have PCOS. Well, I was just wondering what the next steps of diagnostics would be? I know I'll probably need scans and my doc mentioned clomid but in what order and how long after first appointment will all this take, and what will they do at first appointment (will I need a scrub and trim  )???
Thanks for any advice

Hi when i was first diagnosed i only had a blood test and a scan. (THat was years ago and as i wasn't TTC it was just a case of going on the pill).

This time I had to have a repeat of the initial blood test and a scan. I also had to have a insulin resistance test which involved a morning in the hospital as you can also be diabetic if you have PCOS. I wasn't but they still put you on a drug called metformin which can help you loose weight and also help you ovulate.

With me they are going to try this frist for a year before they try clomid.

Feel free to PM me if I haven't answered your questions.

Hi

I had the PCOS scan and it was an internal :puke: scan with stirrups. It wasn't particularly bad, about on a level with a smear really but with a big white plastic wand (strangely like a sex toy) rather than the horrid metal thingymabob. As far as I'm aware the test for PCOS is a scan and a blood test and the two combined confirm it. Not sure if they'll the do the scan at your first appointment as my route was slightly different to yours.

I bet, with my little knowledge of the way funding seems to work, your specialist will write to your GP and suggest that he prescribes Clomid rather than the gynae actually prescribing it himself.

Hope that helps. Good luck... I'd scrub and trim just to be on the safe side!

Hi,

Sorry reply is a bit late but wanted to give you a little bit of hope, I too have PCOS and was diagnosed 5 years ago although showing signs upto a year earlier, I have had the internal and not very plesant, i just wanted to say that I spoke to my consultant and he asked me to try naturally first of all, which involved stopping the pill 3 months before trying, taking folic acid and decided not to drink from January 06.

I was told to loose weight and managed to loose 10lb, I missed 2 periods leading up to TTC and We started trying at the end of May and luckily we got a BFP in August!

So please have faith it can be done,

J

Hiya I've just had a scan and nurse said I have suspect PCOS and next step to confirm is a blood test which will also say what tablets to go on.

Hope this helps.

when are you going to have your scan FC?

Hope everything turns out ok, whatever it is you'll be treated and you'll be fine :)

Well PCOS (as far as I know) doesn't mean you never ovulate so I'd suggest you BD anyway cause you never know when it might happen ;)

Good luck with everything

No if you have PCOS you could ovulate but never have regular cycles like me.

My last cycle was 56 days.
This cycle I'm on day 14 and not ovulated yet.

Thanks, I don't know about scan yet, I suppose my gynae will send me for one when I see him/her. We usually BD about 3 times a week, I hope thats enough  .

Oooo, totally unexpected, I had a letter from the hospital this morning giving me a date for my scan  next wednesday at 12:20. I thought the gynae would send me for one after I had my appointment but obviously not :D . Does anyone know if it'll be an external or internal one as I thought it would be internal cos of my innards being down in my pelvis, but from what the letter says (having a full bladder etc. whick I thought internal requires empty bladder, I could be mistaken though) it sounds like an external one :? I'd only like to know cos 'down there' is getting a bit wild and I'd be very embarrassed if they had to do a Moses to get in (part the waves  ).

Yours sounds like an external which is strange as I had an internal and they made me pee before-hand.

Still not got appointment for blood tests yet :(

Well had my scan today. They did the normal trans abdominal one, I thought I was gonna wee myself, luckily I was early (even though I got a bit lost in the hospital) and I went practically straight in. I was suprised it was onlt me and 2 old couples and a middle aged bloke in there, I thought it was gonna be full for preggy women. Anyway, the sonographer was nice, she done a few measurements of my ovaries and uterus, then said my gynaecologist will have my report ready when I have my appointment. OMG I thought I'd know something today but I gotta wait a week and half. It was really weird seeing my innards. At least I'll knoe what to expect and where to go when/if I get my BFP :)
Pysco hope your blood test appointment comes through soon.

Thanx. Still nothing yet :?

Urg you have to do more waiting?
It is weird seeing all your innards lol.
