I'm hoping someone might be able to answer some queries I have.

I had my day 1-5 bloods done last cycle & was told they were borderline & in a grey area, so they wanted me to have them done again to check if those were just a one off. I've had those bloods done again today & await the results.

What I don't fully understand is what they are showing? I know they are checking my eggs but are they checking how many I have or what? What cud my results mean?

I had my 21 day bloods which confirmed I am releasing an egg so I don't understand wat cud be wrong. The gp said if these results show the same they will need to look into fertility treatment, possibly IVF. I was very shocked to hear that & wasnt expecting to hear IVF!

I don't know anything about IVF so I need to read up on it.

I'd really appreciate people's comments & any advice they can offer, if uve been thru anything similar, or if u have any idea wat cud be the issue with my eggs? I'd also love to hear any IVF stories.

Xx

Hi Amber,

Day 2-5 bloods look at thyroid, FH, testosterone and something else I can't remember but they usually indicate pcos if deranged which is treatable x ivf wouldn't be ur 1st option I wouldn't of thought x

Has hubby/oh had his sperm checked?! Xx

I had a scan last yr to check for PCOS & it was clear. Yes DH gas higher than average spermies which he was very happy to hear! :)

No I know IVF won't be the 1st option, I was just shocked to hear those words.

I think it checks ure LH & FSH. My form said day 1-5 & the gp told me 1-5 & I'm day 1 today which is when I had them done due to the wkend.

Xx

Hi hon please don't worry about what your gp says I have found over the years that they have very limited knowledge on fertility (some are okay) but I would rely more on what your fertility specialist has to say. If your scan was fine (and you don't have the symptoms of PCOS) then I would not worry. FHS and LH would be high if you had PCOS but if you ovulate then you sound in the clear. I don't know how long you have been TTC but IVF is the last option and if all other things fail. Don't worry xx

Thanks gizzy Kelly, the gp I've been seeing is a gaenocologist so she has been pretty good with me. I did think it was strange that their saying something cud be wrong with my eggs even tho I know I'm ovulating.

I have been ttc since Oct 10, fell pg in Dec 10 but sadly mc in Feb. I've had problems with my cycles since coming off the pill & mc. I didn't have periods for 7 months & since sept I've had a 63 day cycle, 2 40 day cycles & my last 1 was 35 days.

I will see wat these results come back like, I'm hoping the last ones were a one off.

Xx

A high FSH can suggest that the ovarian reserve is low, ie your fertility is declining. This can also mean the egg quality is low. In this case, fertility treatment might be needed despite you ovulating, because the odds of a natural conception could be low, and time could be short.

You don't say how old you are, but this is more likely in the over 35s.

Obviously this may not be what your GP is talking about, no way of knowing without the results.

Thanks little angel, that's very interesting what u say & probably wat the gp thinks cud be my issue.

I'm 27, I actually fell pg within 2 months of coming off the pill but sadly mc. I am holding onto the fact that I fell pg before & so quickly, but that was over a yr ago (the mc) & I'm only on my 5th cycle, I didn't have periods for 7 months.

Thanku for ure advice & I see uve got ure bfp? Congrats xx

You would be very young for fertility to be declining at 27, but it's unfortunately possible. The fact that you are ovulating sporadically is good though. There are several options in fertility treatment in this type of case, depending on your results.

Thanks for the congratulations. My infertility was always unexplained, and I had a regular cycle and ovulated monthly. The suspicion has always been that my fertility is declining because of my age though, and this year's blood result did show a dramatic drop in AMH (a marker that gives similar info to the FSH levels).

Ive been looking into this recently - When do you get your results ?

Apparently the FSH results you want to have lower figures in the results not higher, higher shows that your body is having to pump more hormones in to get normal ovulation, and lower results indicate ovarian reserve is still ok, as your body has to pump less hormones to produce normal ovulation (hope that makes sense!)

My fertility consultant has sent a letter to my GP to ask her to have LH and FSH done between day 3-5 of my cycle , which was annoying as it arrived on day 7!! I'm going private for IVF , as he thinks a tubal reversal is not going to work, so hes hoping she will do the tests for me free! Not sure wether to call up and make a docs appointment to dicuss or wait till she calls me to let me know? Don't want to miss the next cycle window!!

Good luck with your results X

@JJ Mum - most GPs will run routine diagnostic bloods for you even if your IVF will be private. Personally I would call/book a telephone call with the GP to check she is happy and ask him/her to leave a blood form out for you. I don't see why they would need to see you in person and they will save you/them an appointment.
