Im so angry, As the title says I think my GP won his qualification rather than learning anything

I have been so wound up the past few months over the Flu jab, Driving my self demented over whether to get it or not, I had my MW app last week and she gave me a flyer about it saying how dangerous the Swine flu is and a article about a woman who cought it last year while pregnant and missed the first few months of here babys life while she was in hospital, So I made a app with the gp so I could discuss it and the possible implications

Well, He didnt have the first clue, I asked if there were many known side effects in pregnant woman as i did not like to trust all I read on the internet.... His responce... Well all I had was a sore are!!!!

So I said again yes but my concern is in pregnancy and im guessing being male you are not in face pregnant!!

So he went and got the leaflet from the vaccine and proceded to read it out to me saying that it had not been fully tested in pregnant women but they were not aware of any effects as yet, And looked at me blankly.... so I asked if many people contracted it here last year and his responce was loads thought they did but i dont think so!!

SO then he got the the part in the leaflet about the flu and it turns out the vaccine does not even cover swine flu....... and he said that the normal flu is not dangerous in pregnancy so prob no point gettin it......which is not what I was led to believe!!

I was so anoyed iv been so stressed out over the H1N1 vaccine and it turns out if I had just got the jab thinking i was covered I actually would not be

Now i dont know what to think, Are they expecting it not to be bad this year?? is he just a muppett who picked up the wrong Vaccine??? is the Californian flu actually Swine ful even thought he says its not????

Im realy none the wiser

Sorry for the rant but how am I ment to put my faith in these people when they all give conflicting information and didnt seem to have any facts or information other than what he was reading off a box ahhhhhhhhhhh

wow, makes you wonder how your gp ever passed his doctorate dont it. he should have kept up to date with studies in cambridge journals. why not look up the school of medicine and proper academic journals for info as those are the only reliable information sources that arent media influenced.

You need a new gp hunny. Request a new one, i would.....GP is meant to stand for General Practitioner not Gormless Prick.

Personally I would take more notice of my mw. She's the specialist in your pregnancy care and has thousands of years of knowledge behind her training. Doctors as such have only been around for the last few hundred years and seem to have learned relatively little it seems.

Chat to your mw again xxxxxxxxx

Just to say ordinary flu is dangerous to pregnant women. It can kill. :(

It's up to you whether you have the jab or not. Noone will judge you. Its your body, your decision.

I've decided to have it done and will be speaking to my midwife next tuesday. The risks are minimal. But then there are risks from not having the jab. Either way there are risks.xx

This years seasonal flu vaccine has been developed to incorporate h1n1. I had the jab and was fine - only a sore arm.

When my sister was ill with swine flu there were 4ish expectant mothers in critical care in medically induced comas. I know one of the babies survived after being born by emergency c section but not sure about the rest - hopefully they were ok x

I can understand ur frustration but I have no idea either! I had it done 2 and a half weeks ago and I've not had any side effects. The nurse said to me here isn't a lot o research done I to the vaccine and pg women for obvious reasons but the research they do have is it can cause some side effects in baby but nothing serious and only in a very very small number of cases.

She said the risk of not having it done and contracting the virus is a lot more than having it done and something beig wrig with baby.

Hope this helps xxx

must have been an old leaflet as princess said this years vacine includes H1N1

i had mine last week, its up to you in the end, normal flu can also be dangerous as it can give you a fever. do some research yourself hun, sounds like he didnt know what he was talking about. xxx

Like princess said - this years swine flu DOES have an H1N1 component.

There are risks to having the jab, but remember that flu can kill. If you're still unsure chat with your MW - thats what she's there for.

I found the NHS website quite good for giving basic information.

Thanks girls

See thats my whole problem, It was mainly the H1N1 that was my worry and the leaflet the MW gave did say the Jab had it but he had the box with the actual vaccine and it was that leaflet that said 3 other types, So its just so f&*(ing confusing, Its hard enough trying to make a decision never mind been given all sorts of wrong information (and I do think he may well have been wrong) from a gp

He wasnt the normal GP I see think he was a fill in so might try get app with a differend doc in same surgery

He was just so blatently uninterested, I was also advised by mw to speak to him in relation to my heart murmur which I think has worsened during pregnancy and he was so rude about it, Said ah i dont know maybe there is a issue with ur valve or a narrmowing above the heart sure get it looked into after uv had ur baby???? the wole point was that I was worried about it during the prgnancy, Just makes me sooo mad

So now do i jsut get that jab and what ever was in it or try get a different one that definitly has swine flu ? or how will I know for sure ( assuming my final decision is to get it obviously lol)

Boots do the combined jab for 12.99. Have a word with the pharmacist and get their opinion too xxxxxxxxx

Oh Thanks BB so I can just buy it off the shelf then can I or would i need a perscription? Im guessing i would still need to go to GP to administer it though? not chancin that my self lol

By any chance you remember the name of it, Cant think of the one he had but I would recognise it if i seen it

They inject you in their consulting room hun, the pharmacist does it and should be able to give you all the info you need. Maybe take your notes with you in case they need to check anything xxxxxxxxxxx

I think tesco pharmacy does it too if it's easier xxxxxxxxx

The pharmacist themself gives it to you in boots or any other chemist. That stand in doc seems like a right plank. You really need to speak to your mw about this, is she based at the same practice as your docs? You need to run this all past her.

Yeah he really made me feel horrible for just asking the questions princess like what are you doing wasting my time kind of attitude, The MW is in the same practice but only on a Tuesday morn so I will have missed her now, My next app is 3rd of Nov but didnt want to wait that long so might try phoning and see if she can give me a telephone consultion

Thanks for the advise on Boots will pop in and ask them, dont have a tescos pharmacy here unfortunitly :-(

Thanks Winnie, Afraid we dont have one a dem here either LOL

What a wazzock.

The nurse told me it had swine flu in it and also 2 other types of flu they expect to hit the uk this winter. she also said to me that there were pregnant ladies who died from swine flu and if you catch the normal flu it could be really severe and much worse than for non pregnant people.

I felt a bit apprehensive about it as well like you.

Yeah its just so frustrating not being able to trust the information a GP is telling me , My mam checked with a chemist back in Ireland and the Calafornia flu is a "normal" flu too not the swine flu so defo not in the vaccine they using here

I dont know what why id go if it did have the H1N1 but be nice to know im basing my decision on propper medical facts grrrrr internet too rubish to open most hte the medical bits i found by google too so still none d wiser,

Thanks Hun, I think the prob might be that over here ( in the isle of man) they mght be using a different vaccine to the mainland UK im just driving my self pure demented over the whole thing i just goin round in circles over it

Just off the phone with my friend back in Ireland who works as a medical secertary and had asked her to ask the doctors over there and 2 of them are all for it and 2 completly against it FFS just can win can I lol so think im just gonna have to decide based on what little info I have now and if i decide to go with it il try and buy it from boots
