using up annual leave before maternity leave

I thought I could save up some holiday days and take about 3 weeks holiday before my EDD.

If the baby is born before its EDD does maternity leave automatically start or can still continue to use up my holiday days and then have maternity leave start after the birth?

your mat leave will auto start - you should then be able to carry them over to next yr.

Thats what happened with me, so next yr il get 33 days hol plus bank hol.
